Six-year-old Lakshana T., a cheerful Class I student from Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu, appeared to be a perfectly healthy child until a routine school health screening revealed a heart murmur.
Following detailed cardiac investigations by the team at MIOT Hospitals, Chennai, Lakshana was diagnosed with a Small Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)—a congenital heart defect that requires timely treatment to prevent serious future complications.
Although she currently has no symptoms, doctors have recommended an Elective Device Closure of PDA to repair her heart and give her the opportunity to live a healthy, active life.
The Medical Need
Doctors have advised an urgent Device Closure of PDA. The estimated treatment cost includes the PDA closure device, cardiac procedure, ICU care, hospital stay, investigations, and medicines required for Lakshana's recovery.
Lakshana's father, Mr. Thimarayan, is a daily wage agricultural labourer earning approximately ₹500 per day only when work is available. He also lives with speech and hearing impairment, limiting his employment opportunities.
Her mother, Mrs. Asha, works in a phone packing factory, earning around ₹13,000 per month while caring for the family.
Their modest and uncertain income barely meets their daily household expenses, making the ₹1,40,000 needed for Lakshana's heart procedure impossible to arrange without public support.
